Ember of Vael

★★★★★ 4.6 Editor rating

Ember of Vael is the rare mobile RPG that doesn't feel watered down. You build a small party, wander a hand-drawn world, and fight in a turn-based system where positioning genuinely matters. The writing has personality, and side characters actually stuck with me between sessions.

Combat is where it shines on a phone. Everything is tap-to-select with clear icons, and you can slow down or speed up battles. There's an auto-battle for grinding, but the boss fights punish you if you lean on it, which I respect. The settings let you scale text size and enable a colorblind-friendly palette.

It does warm the phone up during long dungeon crawls, so this is a plug-in-and-play title if you're going deep. For shorter sessions it's fine. If you like a story you can sink into, this one earns the time.
